Art that Weaves Stories
Faye Abantao (b.1994) is a Filipino artist based in Bacolod City, Philippines. She captures an essence of culmination in her multifaceted art practice wherein she creates homogenous ideas into the panache of creative process such as origami, printmaking, image transfer, collage, photography, digital alteration and painting.
Abantao received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from La Consolation College in 2015. She was able to fortify her experience as an artist through the different shows that she was able to partake in during the last few years particularly in Vargas Museum, Orange Project, Ysobel Art Gallery, Tin-aw Art Projects, Qube Gallery, and Sankring Art Space. Her work for the book ‘Kakatok-katok sa Bahay ni Benok’ (Knocking on Benok’s House) won the best reads award in the 7th National Children’s Book Award in the Philippines.
She has been the recipient of Karen H. Montinola Grant and was featured in Art Fair Philippines Projects in 2023. Abantao has been an artist in residence at HOM Trans Art in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2023), Bario Butanding in Puerto Princesa, Palawan (2022), and Overlab in Gwangju, South Korea (2017) and was recently selected to participate in an artist residency in Kunskraftwerk in Leipzig Germany.
